OK’s New Look and a Giveaway

OK’s New Look and a Giveaway

Beyond the Books

Notice anything different ’round here?  Outlander Kitchen has a new look!

The switchover wasn’t quite as smooth as planned, and I’ll have to keep working to fix all of the photos over the next week…most of them are there, but they’re not showing up, depending on your browser.  The good news is that all the recipes are where they should be, and the recipe index is working just fine — it’s just the window dressing that I’m having a few problems with, aye?

The changes aren’t quite finished, but we’re going ahead with the giveaway anyway — life goes on, and I have a schedule — it’s nearing the end of March!  There’s prep to be done if our tables are to be stacked with food for friends on the Starz premiere night (whenever that might be, but I’m hoping for August, because I just can’t see how it will be much before that. TV production has a schedule too, after all.)

Giveaways are all the rage right now in Outlanderville, and it’s time OK got back in the game. I’ve got a couple of great DG-signed prizes, so I’m going to ask you to work a bit, I’m afraid. Not physical labour, mind, but you will need to get your creative energy fired up.

Up for grabs in a random draw open to all entrants is a 20th Anniversary Special Edition Outlander, signed by Diana Gabaldon. It looks just like the one in the picture of Fiona’s Ginger-Nut Biscuits, above, by Outlander Kitchen friend Claire.

A second prize, consisting of a spurtle signed by Diana and an Outlander Kitchen notebook, will be awarded to the most creative/photogenic/original/etc entry (as determined by myself.)

To enter, send me a picture of your favourite Outlander Kitchen recipe. I’ve included a few past OK fan photos on this post for your inspiration — I’m struck by the beautiful, like Claire’s picture above, but also by this perfectly cooked medium-rare Roast Beef for a Wedding Feast from Lori.

(Mrs Fitz would have been proud to place that “joint” on the table in front of her Laird.)

Or maybe you’ve got a way with set decoration  like Jeanie.  She posted the following picture of Hot Chocolate with La Dame Blanche (wave to Master Raymond!) on Facebook on a cold winter’s morning, and had thousands drooling and begging to stop by her place to curl up in front of the fire with a good book.

(Not to mention that cake. I feel a wee daydream vacay to a well-appointed 18th Century Parisian salon coming on, don’t you?)

The Rules:

  1. Send your photos as email attachments to outlanderkitchen(at)
  2. This contest is open worldwide.
  3. The deadline for entries is 6pm, Pacific Time (GMT -0800), Friday, April 25th, 2014.
  4. One entry per person.
  5. The winners will be announced on on Monday, April 28th, 2014.

Now get cooking, have fun and good luck!

I’ve been taunted for years by a friend who’s a nettle fan and I just couldn’t see it…
So, I found the Nettle buns on Pinterest… and I went out foraging this morning… and for dinner… te beautiful buns! The bright green nettles, the lemon,,, the parm… oh… How fantastic! I have photos! I may enter the contest!
Thank you, for sharing the recipe and for making me try the nettles.

Yes, I love the new look too, AND the competition. Although I have regularly checked out your recipes, I have yet to actually make one, so it’s a nice challenge. THANKS.

Theresa, you have set the bar FAR too high on the food porn. My cheese gougeres taste like Heaven but look like Hell. Piping and me are unmixy things.
