I’ve had a few watershed moments along the way on my five-year Outlander Kitchen journey.
The first, at the very beginning, was when Diana Gabaldon generously granted me permission to develop recipes based on her Outlander series.
Another came this spring, when I caught myself holding my breath in surreal disbelief as I sat at my desk in my little office on little Pender Island, BC, Canada and signed a big cookbook contract with Ballantine Books of Random House in New York.
Since then, it’s been a mad flurry of 15 hour days and 7-day weeks, writing recipes, experimenting in the kitchen and taking a crash course in the mysterious ways of the publishing world.
As anyone who has had a chance to live their dream will tell you, I am enjoying every minute and feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
I’ve got another couple of months to go before my deadline, so the work very much continues.
We’re smack in the middle of recipe testing right now — the photos you see here were taken by a few of the ten OK testers in their first three weeks of testing the new dishes — I’m happy to report (and you can see) that things are going very well!
Some watershed moments come with a wee bit of pomp. (Like that glass of chilled Champagne that sat beside me, sparkling on my lucky thistle coaster, as I signed my cookbook contract.)
Others come by surprise, like when your friend sends you a seemingly random Amazon link in a private message on FB, asking if she can post it on her timeline.
Seeing Outlander Kitchen: The Official Outlander Companion Cookbook available for pre-order on Amazon.com won’t be the last of my big OK moments, but it’s definitely one of my favourites so far.
(Find it on Amazon.ca too!)
“From professional chef, food writer, and die-hard Outlander fan Theresa Carle-Sanders comes the official cookbook inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s New York Times bestselling series! Featuring authentic dishes alongside modern interpretations—such as Claire’s first lonely bowl of Mrs. Fitz’s Porridge at Castle Leoch and Roast Beef for a Wedding Feast after her hasty marriage to valiant Highlander Jamie Fraser—these doable, delicious recipes make for a mouthwatering taste of this unforgettable world.”
Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way…we’re in the home stretch! The current release date is June 14, 2016, but that’s not set in absolute stone,so watch this space for updates!
