Outlander on Starz Premiere at Spreckels Theater San Diego Comic Con 2014

Outlander on STARZ Premiere - Comic Con 2014

Thousands descended on San Diego last week for Comic Con 2014, including a few hundred #Outlanders there to see the world premiere of Outlander on STARZ.

I was invited along by another big fan, Karli, who generously offered her "plus one" ticket to me. We spent the weekend with 6 other fabulous women in a house in the Hillcrest district of SD.

None of us had ever met in person, but as I've learned before on previous Outlander-related trips, when you travel to meet other fans of Diana Gabaldon's epic tale of love and adventure, you're sure to meet a group of like-minded women all up for a good time.

The Outlander Boys - Comic Con 2014

We started off the day of the premiere with a visit to the Convention Centre. We didn't have tickets to get inside, but what does that matter when we were lucky enough to come across this group of kilted "Highlanders?"

piper

Those handsome men were accompanied by some beautiful female pipers who played with all their might to keep up the enthusiasm. You'll find a video of them belting it out on Outlander Kitchen's new Youtube channel.

Then it was time to get back to the house and gussy ourselves up for our walk up the Plaid Carpet on the way into Spreckels Theater, the venue for the big premiere!

Nettles

We gathered in our seats and waited while the stars were interviewed on their way in. Most of you know I can't resist any chance to plug my love of nettles as food, so I had to snap a pic when they came up on the screen. You can sting yourself to soothe arthritis if you want, but I'll use mine to make a batch of Claire's Nettle-Kissed Buns.

Pipers at the Outlander on Starz Premiere

Then it was time for the Outlander on Starz premiere to begin! Those beautiful pipers were back again, this time in their formal evening attire.

We were treated to even more music by Outlander theme composer Bear McCreary, fiddler Paul Cartright and vocalist Raya Yarbrough. I managed to capture all but the first 2 seconds on video...I highly recommend sitting back and taking 11 minutes to listen.  Everyone in the audience was blown away.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTzV-UmUAsI]

I don't want to say too much about the first episode, 'cause I'm a very anti-spoiler kind of girl, but I feel safe in saying that Outlander book fans won't be disappointed.

It was everything I hoped for. There are some new scenes, a few that are a little different, and some that are gone altogether, but the passion, drama and humour are all there. I fell in love with the story all over again. I can't wait for more, and for everyone else to see it! You may have a wee bone to pick here and there, but in real life, you've got nothing but to be happy.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Comic-Con-Panel2

After the show, we were treated to a Q&A session some of the cast, Diana and Ron Moore. It had been a long day for all of them, being dragged to event after event, but they were all still on form, throwing jokes and light-hearted volleys back and forth to keep the audience laughing.

It was a day and night I'll never forget, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with so many other fans.

Outlander on STARZ premieres on August 9, 2014 at 9PM ET. An in-advance online full-episode preview ill be available online at STARZ.com/Outlander.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Swag

Of course, where there's a premiere, there's swag. I have 3 Outlander on STARZ bandanas to give away this week. The first goes to a random winner here on the blog who follows the instructions below:

Looking forward to EVERY scene, but especially the wedding!

There are many scenes that I am waiting to see, but the scene I want the most has to be the Wedding Night. So happy that you were able to attend the Premiere, and thanks for sharing your experience!

28 Jul 2014 - 2:56pm

I'm most looking forward the wedding. I absolutely can not wait to see all the preparation and fight she puts up before being swept off her feet by a breathtaking young highlander.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:10pm

Elaine Bondra

More than anything, I just really want to SEE the people & places and to HEAR the voices that I've carried around in my head for such a long time. If I have to pick one scene, it would be when Claire tells Jamie about her "dead" husband and he pulls her onto his lap to comfort her when she loses it. He later says it was the moment he fell in love with her.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:15pm

Sharon Thackston

So hard to pick out just one thing, there are so many that I can't wait to see how they handle. Claire going through the stones, the wedding, the wedding night, the whippings, Frank seeing Jamie's "ghost" watching Claire, etc. This series will be dynamite especially since it's filmed in Scotland and the Highlands, the scenery will play as big of a part as the cast.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:15pm

Mary

I'm looking forward to when Claire makes her decision at the stones and runs back to Jamie at the cottage. Oh, the feels!

28 Jul 2014 - 3:16pm

Megan

I'm really looking forward to when Jamie takes Claire back to the stones and puts her hand on it and she starts to fade and he pulls her away. I've got chills just thinking about it. There are SO many scenes I can't wait to see!!

28 Jul 2014 - 3:19pm

Shanah

I can't wait for the scene when Claire is brought into the hut to tend to young Jamie the first time.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:21pm

Jacqueline Roodnat

I am looking forward to the wedding :)

28 Jul 2014 - 3:22pm

Sandi Goldberg

So many to look forward to! The wedding of course, Claire deciding to stay with Jamie. And Lollybrock, I am interested to see if it fits the picture I have in my head.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:26pm

Catherine L

I'm really looking forward to when Jamie and Claire first meet, as well as the wedding scene where Claire faints. I also can't wait to see the scene where Claire fights the wolf - the pure desperation and strength in that scene should be amazing to see.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:26pm

Lynn Bischoff

I'm looking forward to seeing the life at Lallybroch, with Jenny and Ian. Especially the first scene with Jamie's return and Jenny.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:28pm

Cheryl

I want to see when Claire first meets Jamie, then the wedding.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:29pm

Candy McAuliffe

The scene I want to see is when C and J get to Lollybroch and Jamie and Jenny have their huge yelling match and Claire and Ian sit outside listening and chatting. Love that scene!

28 Jul 2014 - 3:32pm

Sandy

I am most looking forward to the scene when Jamie visits Claire in the late Beaton's surgery. Also, I just look forward to experiencing the chemistry between Claire and Jamie, and the rest of the characters. Oh, I think the reaction of Claire (her face) when Jamie stands in for Loaghaire's punishment. Geez, who am I kidding...there are too many "scenes" that I cannot wait to see. I know I am not going to be disappointed.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:35pm

Nicole S.

Thank you for sharing your Outlander experience of SDCC! I am actually most looking forward to the seeing the dynamic of Claire and Jamie meeting for the very first time.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:36pm

Paige Carroll

There are so many scenes I am looking forward to....it is hard to narrow it down! The return to Lallybroch will be high on the list along with the wedding night, of course! But I also look forward to seeing Claire fight to free Jamie from Wentworth....wolves, cows, Oh! My!rnThanks for having the giveaway and sharing your "swag" with the fans!

28 Jul 2014 - 3:39pm

Wendy

Today I'm looking forward to the scene where he has to punish her for disobeying him. Tomorrow it may be a different scene.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:40pm

Sheila Mcclymont

I am really looking forward to claire &jamie reunion when she does not go through the stones then they set of for lallybroch

28 Jul 2014 - 3:42pm

Nicole Z

It's impossible to pick just one scene that I'm looking forward to seeing, but because this is a book-to-screen adaptation I know I'm looking forward to seeing how they have interpreted how the stones work, and how we'll experience what Claire is feeling.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:44pm

Mary Beth

I'm actually looking forward to seeing Claire and Murtagh singing their way across the countryside to find out where the English have taken Jamie. And Jamie saving Claire from BJR, Claire saving Jamie from BJR, and Claire fighting to help Jamie survive his abuse and save his soul at the Abbey.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:46pm

Susan

The scene I am most looking forward to seeing is the day after the wedding when Jamie and Claire take the walk together and they have to relate to each other in a new way in the light of day after their wedding night.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:47pm

Saskia

Of course I really look forward to the wedding, but I'd love to see the scene when Jamie and Claire finally return to Lallybroch! :-)

28 Jul 2014 - 3:50pm

Allison

Definitely the wedding scene. Going through the stones and Claire meeting Jack Randall. There are too many to mention. All of it!!!

28 Jul 2014 - 3:51pm

Karen Nutter

I can't wait to see the wedding! I'm sure the costumes will be amazing. Ok. And the wedding night!

28 Jul 2014 - 3:54pm

Beth Euchler

I'm looking forward to the scene where Claire tells Jamie what she is and he says, "It would have been easier if you were a witch."

28 Jul 2014 - 3:56pm

Kristine Phillips

I'm looking forward to all of it, but I think, top of my list is the ride to Castle Leoch where Jamie and Claire share a horse and first become intimate with each other.

28 Jul 2014 - 3:56pm

JoAnn

I want to see the moment that made me give my heart and soul to these books: When Jamie and Claire are riding to Leoch and she berates him for moving his arm, and he tells her he was just getting his plaid to wrap around her because she was shivering. I totally lost it then! (But I want to see all the other scenes too!)

28 Jul 2014 - 3:56pm

Shannon

I am looking forward to the wedding night. And other nights as Jamie becomes more experienced. ;-) And when Claire & Jamie go back to Lallybroch & meet Jenny & Ian. Sorry that's not just one...

28 Jul 2014 - 4:00pm

Beverly Walters

I want to see the scene at Lallybroch when Jaime tells Claire why he married her. It has such passion and humor. Having read and pictured it so many times I can't wait to see Sam and Cait play with that one. It is just a ripping good scene.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:01pm

Anna Lapping

I'm of course looking forward to the Wedding Scene, but also excited to see all the costumes in the scenes when they're in the castle, and in France. I'm sure they will be fantastic.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:02pm

Jen

So many scenes to choose from... I'd have to say Jamie & Claire's first REAL kiss (the steamy one we've heard about). And of course, the wedding night (those 2 scenes could be one in the same?). I said I was a virgin, not a monk, he said, kissing me again. If I find I need guidance, I'll ask. ;)

28 Jul 2014 - 4:03pm

The scene at dinner at Leoch when Jamie explains, to the vast amusement of the castle residents, his previous encounter at age 16 with the Duke of Sandringham. It so perfectly highlights his self-deprecating sense of humor while subtly emphasizing his cleverness and the beginnings of his razor-sharp political savvy. Also the leader who is willing to share such an embarrasing moment publicly -- and so entertainingly as well -- will quickly earn the respect and admiration of those whom he leads, especially among fighters (speaking from personal experience in the military). Lucky for Colum and Dougal, Jamie had no designs on the leadership of Clan MacKenzie!

Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing with all of us, not nearly as good as being there, but as close as it gets for those of us who couldn't attend. I am most looking forward to the scenes at the Abby where Claire "brings Jamie back" after he has given up all hope of ever reclaiming his soul from Black Jack Randall; when at the end, she clutches him, weeping, to her breast and he asks, "Mother?" in the voice of a young boy. Oh, the lengths to which we women will go to heal our men!

28 Jul 2014 - 4:05pm

Jen

The wedding night!

Alylene Fields

Hi T it was so good to meet you in person. I can't for him to rescue her from the trial and taking her to the stones and then to Lallybroch. To me that's when they are united she had a choice and code Jamie.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:09pm

Patti Moore

Jamie and Claire's first kiss. They were so cute at CCSD when asked about it, I am sure it is going to be a changing moment for them.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:20pm

Brenda Walters

It's so hard to pick one scene over the entire book! I think the most interesting scenes will be of Claire trying to figure out where & when she is, and whom she can trust - her internal struggles with the entire situation and her determination to get back to Frank. Then watching her change as she grows to love Jamie, ultimately deciding to stay when she reaches the stones. rnI am also looking forward to every shot of Scotland, and all the fabulous costumes!

28 Jul 2014 - 4:25pm

Patricia Aliaga

I'm most looking forward to seeing how Claire re-sets Jamie's dislocated shoulder. For whatever reason I always found that part interesting. :) Also, I want to see at Castle Leoch when Jamie takes the flogging for Laoghaire.

They're so many scenes to choose from but I'm really excited to see is the wedding, the blood vows scene, the trial, and Jamie and Claire goes home to Lallybroch. See to many too choose from :)

I am most looking forward to the after Wentworth scene at Sir Marcus's house. When Claire is doing an inventory of Jamie's hand injuries and keeps apologizing for hurting him and he tells her if she keeps that up it's going to be a long night and then puts the piece of leather in his mouth and crosses his eyes at her and she busts out laughing, but because only Sir Marcus can see, the rest of the room is completely appalled.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:27pm

I most most looking forward to seeing Claire at her BAD-ASS BEST when she is fighting the wolves and rescuing Jamie from Wentworth. She is the heart of this story, I'm looking forward to seeing a smart, capable woman taking charge of her own destiny. Not much of that happens on television these days.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:27pm

Aubrey

Definitely looking forward to seeing the scene where Jamie attempts to send Claire back through the stones. It's one of my favorites.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:29pm

Laurie

I'm looking forward to the scene at Wentworth when BJR nails Jamie's hand to the table. I will watch that one with my hands over my eyes and my teeth clenched....maybe clench my butt cheeks too!.

28 Jul 2014 - 4:29pm

Susan Van Hoven

The scene I'm interested in is when Dougal takes Claire to the Saint's pool and describes Jamie's floggings. It spoke so deeply to Jamie's bravery, strength, and depth of his character. It touched my heart. I also felt that for all Dougal's gruffness, it was high praise coming from him.

Elaine Bondra

I suspect that since the clips show Jamie actually being flogged, we may not see the scene where Dougal describes it to Claire, or at least not as it is written in the book. I do like the book scene a lot, but this may be one time when "adapted for tv" means a change from the original.

Lucia D'Angelo

Oh yes! Thanks for the reminder. I also want the pool at St. Anne de Beaupr, as that is a special place for me.

Most looking forward to the scene where Claire is made custodian of the 'treatment room' in Leoch. She has a moment of quiet reflection, and in finding out what remedies, potions etc to me it is where she makes transition from nurse to doctor.
