Outlander on Starz Premiere at Spreckels Theater San Diego Comic Con 2014

Outlander on STARZ Premiere - Comic Con 2014

Thousands descended on San Diego last week for Comic Con 2014, including a few hundred #Outlanders there to see the world premiere of Outlander on STARZ.

I was invited along by another big fan, Karli, who generously offered her "plus one" ticket to me. We spent the weekend with 6 other fabulous women in a house in the Hillcrest district of SD.

None of us had ever met in person, but as I've learned before on previous Outlander-related trips, when you travel to meet other fans of Diana Gabaldon's epic tale of love and adventure, you're sure to meet a group of like-minded women all up for a good time.

The Outlander Boys - Comic Con 2014

We started off the day of the premiere with a visit to the Convention Centre. We didn't have tickets to get inside, but what does that matter when we were lucky enough to come across this group of kilted "Highlanders?"

Those handsome men were accompanied by some beautiful female pipers who played with all their might to keep up the enthusiasm. You'll find a video of them belting it out on Outlander Kitchen's new Youtube channel.

Then it was time to get back to the house and gussy ourselves up for our walk up the Plaid Carpet on the way into Spreckels Theater, the venue for the big premiere!

We gathered in our seats and waited while the stars were interviewed on their way in. Most of you know I can't resist any chance to plug my love of nettles as food, so I had to snap a pic when they came up on the screen. You can sting yourself to soothe arthritis if you want, but I'll use mine to make a batch of Claire's Nettle-Kissed Buns.

Pipers at the Outlander on Starz Premiere

Then it was time for the Outlander on Starz premiere to begin! Those beautiful pipers were back again, this time in their formal evening attire.

We were treated to even more music by Outlander theme composer Bear McCreary, fiddler Paul Cartright and vocalist Raya Yarbrough. I managed to capture all but the first 2 seconds on video...I highly recommend sitting back and taking 11 minutes to listen.  Everyone in the audience was blown away.

I don't want to say too much about the first episode, 'cause I'm a very anti-spoiler kind of girl, but I feel safe in saying that Outlander book fans won't be disappointed.

It was everything I hoped for. There are some new scenes, a few that are a little different, and some that are gone altogether, but the passion, drama and humour are all there. I fell in love with the story all over again. I can't wait for more, and for everyone else to see it! You may have a wee bone to pick here and there, but in real life, you've got nothing but to be happy.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Comic-Con-Panel2

After the show, we were treated to a Q&A session some of the cast, Diana and Ron Moore. It had been a long day for all of them, being dragged to event after event, but they were all still on form, throwing jokes and light-hearted volleys back and forth to keep the audience laughing.

It was a day and night I'll never forget, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with so many other fans.

Outlander on STARZ premieres on August 9, 2014 at 9PM ET. An in-advance online full-episode preview ill be available online at STARZ.com/Outlander.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Swag

Of course, where there's a premiere, there's swag. I have 3 Outlander on STARZ bandanas to give away this week. The first goes to a random winner here on the blog who follows the instructions below:

Most looking forward to the scene where Claire is made custodian of the 'treatment room' in Leoch. She has a moment of quiet reflection, and in finding out what remedies, potions etc to me it is where she makes transition from nurse to doctor.

I can't wait to see the Ghost scene! I know it's been floating around as a promo but I want to wait to see it in the context of the show. It's always been one of my favorite parts of the entire series!

28 Jul 2014 - 4:52pm

Seriously looking forward to every freaken second of it but in particular the scene involving Jamie's having to spank Claire for having disobeyed him. Can't wait to see how they portray this scene and of course all the ribbing she will endure following this. Needless to say the ensuing make-up, make-out session will set our hearts on fire. Nothing hotter than make-up sex. Xoxox

The scene I'm looking forward to is Claire and Jamie's mo ing after the wedding, when they start their lives together in ea est. You're down south and I'm in the PNW; not sure yet where I'll watch the premier, as I may be in Seattle or ?.....I'd gladly accept an invitation to a viewing, hint-hint. ;-)

Thanks Outlander Kitchen! I'm really interested to see how they do the "spanking" scene just because it made me so mad when I read the book. Should be super interesting to see how they handle that scene!

28 Jul 2014 - 5:01pm

I am looking forward to "To Ransom a Man's Soul" Claire's fight for Jamie! The passion that she has and probably wasn't even aware of! Even though Jamie has that same passion for her!!!

Great photos! I am looking forward to Jamie and Claire's wedding. Can't wait to see how Cait handles the overwhelming emotions of marrying some Highlander she doesn't even know, in the same church where she married Frank

Merry Miller Moon

The scene that I'm looking forward to seeing is when Claire and Jamie are reunited and he learns that Claire has named their child after his father-Brian, 'Brianna'! And I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but Jamie actually sheds a tear when he learns about their daughter. Didn't he say that he sensed her or something? I cannot wait til Aug. 9th and I so hope I win. Thank you! :)

28 Jul 2014 - 5:35pm

I have always wanted to see the scene, almost at the end, when Claire makes the invocation to save Jamie when they are in the abbey in France. That must be the hell of a hard scene!

I'm ready to see a "Highlander in full regalia" (the wedding) and the banter between the men, Jamie & Claire, and everyone. Love love love the wit and banter! Guess that might be the little bit of Scottish (& Irish) that's still verra strong!

28 Jul 2014 - 6:38pm

Jahna Berry

Thank you for sharing so much with us! I cried through the whole video with Bear and the music. It's so good and touching! I think most of us can't wait for the wedding night... no doubt! But I think the one scene I can't wait to see is when Jamie takes Claire home and the scene that occurs between Jamie and Jenny. There are so many scenes I can't wait to see but that one is gonna be good. Oh heck, they are all gonna be good!

28 Jul 2014 - 6:49pm

One of my favorite scenes from the book is when Jaime tries to comfort Claire when they first arrive at the castle.

28 Jul 2014 - 7:25pm

The scene after the wedding in the church when James cuts their wrists and recites the old vows.

28 Jul 2014 - 7:32pm

I am deliriously excited to see the scene where Claire gets her own clinic in Castle Leoch, but then again, I'm a big fan of medical history.

29 Jul 2014 - 6:11am

I'm not looking forward to any one scene per se, so much as I'm looking forward to witty repartee between Jamie and Claire. ;) ....That's not quite true, I wanna see Claire explain her dress/shift to Dougal, Jamie, and company whilst setting Jamie's shoulder. Lol

29 Jul 2014 - 6:36am

29 Jul 2014 - 11:38am

Lora Hansen

Wonderful pictures, and great article! Wish I could have been there. The scene I am most looking forward to takes place in the Abbey in France, where Claire "exorcises" Jamie's emotional demons after his abuse at the hands of Black Jack Randall. Happily I will have all season to anticipate this scene, since it is so near the end of the book.

29 Jul 2014 - 12:05pm

Jennifer Pendleton

Thank you so much for sharing your Outlandish adventure! Aside from the wedding, I'm looking forward to Claire's first meeting with Jaime and the ride to the castle. I guess I'm looking forward to those subtle hints of first attraction and intrigue.
