Outlander on Starz Premiere at Spreckels Theater San Diego Comic Con 2014

Outlander on STARZ Premiere - Comic Con 2014

Thousands descended on San Diego last week for Comic Con 2014, including a few hundred #Outlanders there to see the world premiere of Outlander on STARZ.

I was invited along by another big fan, Karli, who generously offered her "plus one" ticket to me. We spent the weekend with 6 other fabulous women in a house in the Hillcrest district of SD.

None of us had ever met in person, but as I've learned before on previous Outlander-related trips, when you travel to meet other fans of Diana Gabaldon's epic tale of love and adventure, you're sure to meet a group of like-minded women all up for a good time.

The Outlander Boys - Comic Con 2014

We started off the day of the premiere with a visit to the Convention Centre. We didn't have tickets to get inside, but what does that matter when we were lucky enough to come across this group of kilted "Highlanders?"

Those handsome men were accompanied by some beautiful female pipers who played with all their might to keep up the enthusiasm. You'll find a video of them belting it out on Outlander Kitchen's new Youtube channel.

Then it was time to get back to the house and gussy ourselves up for our walk up the Plaid Carpet on the way into Spreckels Theater, the venue for the big premiere!

We gathered in our seats and waited while the stars were interviewed on their way in. Most of you know I can't resist any chance to plug my love of nettles as food, so I had to snap a pic when they came up on the screen. You can sting yourself to soothe arthritis if you want, but I'll use mine to make a batch of Claire's Nettle-Kissed Buns.

Pipers at the Outlander on Starz Premiere

Then it was time for the Outlander on Starz premiere to begin! Those beautiful pipers were back again, this time in their formal evening attire.

We were treated to even more music by Outlander theme composer Bear McCreary, fiddler Paul Cartright and vocalist Raya Yarbrough. I managed to capture all but the first 2 seconds on video...I highly recommend sitting back and taking 11 minutes to listen.  Everyone in the audience was blown away.

I don't want to say too much about the first episode, 'cause I'm a very anti-spoiler kind of girl, but I feel safe in saying that Outlander book fans won't be disappointed.

It was everything I hoped for. There are some new scenes, a few that are a little different, and some that are gone altogether, but the passion, drama and humour are all there. I fell in love with the story all over again. I can't wait for more, and for everyone else to see it! You may have a wee bone to pick here and there, but in real life, you've got nothing but to be happy.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Comic-Con-Panel2

After the show, we were treated to a Q&A session some of the cast, Diana and Ron Moore. It had been a long day for all of them, being dragged to event after event, but they were all still on form, throwing jokes and light-hearted volleys back and forth to keep the audience laughing.

It was a day and night I'll never forget, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with so many other fans.

Outlander on STARZ premieres on August 9, 2014 at 9PM ET. An in-advance online full-episode preview ill be available online at STARZ.com/Outlander.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Swag

Of course, where there's a premiere, there's swag. I have 3 Outlander on STARZ bandanas to give away this week. The first goes to a random winner here on the blog who follows the instructions below:

The oath-taking in the great hall at Leoch. Such a tense little situation, and puir wee Jamie having to think on his feet and pull it off.

Apart from the wedding (a given) I think the scene where Jamie takes Claire to the Stones - knowing that by giving her the choice, she may well leave him - and when she returns to him, finding that he's been weeping. So emotive

29 Jul 2014 - 1:01pm

Hellaine Rangel

I want to see the wedding night!

29 Jul 2014 - 1:02pm

Cat Baker

The scene I am looking forward to seeing on TV (and I hope this counts) isn't actually from the first book, thus will not be in season one. It is, however, from the third book and therefore we won't get to see it for quite some time...Without too much in the way of spoilers, for those who haven't read that far, obviously I am talking about THE reunion :)

Cat, I am with you. Hope they get to a season three. That is one of my favorite scenes as well.

Ann G

I hope they make it through book # 9 ( the book she's writing now.) If there's more....then of course!

29 Jul 2014 - 1:05pm

I am most excited to see the scene where Claire tells Jamie her story, where she's from.... and his reaction. Jamie got goosebumps, as did I!

I'm anxious to see the argument Jamie and Claire have on the road after he rescues her from BJR. Glad you got to attend the premier Theresa. Always great spending time with Outlanders!

29 Jul 2014 - 1:19pm

Sarita Oertling

The morning after the wedding and how they handle Claire going through the stones. I am also interested to see how they develops Claire's and Frank 's relationship.

29 Jul 2014 - 1:21pm

I am definitely looking forward to the wedding day/night, think it will be funny to see Claire drunk and at night when they talk before hand

29 Jul 2014 - 1:56pm

Cheryl Turner

I am looking forward to the scene between Jamie & Jenny at Lallybroach when they are fighting & she gets his attention. I love the relationships between Jamie, Claire, Jenny & Ian Sr.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm looking forward to Claire breaking Jamie out of Wentworth Prison - her stamina, her courage, her determination. I think Caitriona will be wonderful!

29 Jul 2014 - 2:47pm

Roz Cleavely

Assuming I get to see the series one day on UK TV, I most want to see the scene when Claire goes rushing down the hill, having decided to not go through the stones, and finds Jamie asleep, curls up beside him then he wakes to find she's chosen to stay with him.

29 Jul 2014 - 3:03pm

Dawn C.

I think I'm most looking forward to the scene where Claire gets a good whoopin' from Jamie.

29 Jul 2014 - 3:31pm

Lynette M

The scene I am looking forward to would be the ghost scene, and the wedding night.

29 Jul 2014 - 4:47pm

Kathy S

I am most looking forward to when Jamie gives Claire the opportunity to go back to her own time at the stones and then she goes to Jamie instead. I honestly can't wait for the whole thing!

29 Jul 2014 - 4:49pm

Amy Reynolds

I'm looking forward to seeing Jamie and Jenny reunite at Lallybroch when he and Claire arrive. I don't have siblings and I am fascinated by their relationship.

29 Jul 2014 - 4:49pm

Tina Glen

The scene I am most looking forward to has to be the wedding night. The first time Jamie and Claire...ahem...get to really know one another.

29 Jul 2014 - 4:54pm

Jenn Christensen

I am really looking forward to all of them, but the one scene that stands out for me is when Jamie returns home and the fight between him and Jenny.

29 Jul 2014 - 5:58pm

Suzanne Cole

Looking forward to the scene where Jamie tells Claire he married her for love! <3

29 Jul 2014 - 6:17pm

Besides the wedding episode, the scene where Jamie & Claire return to Castle Leoch after wedding/rent collections & get into a fight over Leghair....and the making up afterwards. ;0)

29 Jul 2014 - 7:34pm

I was in San Diego too, but left on the Thursday before Comic-Con!! Poor planning on my part....One scene out of so many?? The Abby scenes, when Claire heals Jamie, and how far she goes to do so...very raw emotions there. But wouldn't we all do what we must, to save the ones we love?

29 Jul 2014 - 7:34pm

Elaine Petit

I'd love to see the scene where Jamie and Claire are returning to lallybroch on Donas. The highlands where they camped, Lochs and Forrest scenery should be beautiful plus Jamie was so gentle with Claire.rnThen The "battle" with Jenny when they arrive.

29 Jul 2014 - 7:40pm

Perhaps unoriginal and said over and over again - but I truly want to see everything just prior to and including the wedding scene. I think that the lead in was one of my favorite things in the book!

29 Jul 2014 - 8:15pm

Daleana Taylor

The reunion when Claire decides to stay with Jamie

30 Jul 2014 - 12:32am

Yet another one here looking forward to the wedding.... And the wedding night

30 Jul 2014 - 12:39am

Wendy Watson

30 Jul 2014 - 1:43am

Carrie Molloy

I can't wait to see the scene in the roadside after Jamie rescues Claire from Fort William. "You're tearin' my guts out, Claire." Tears MY guts out every time I read it!

30 Jul 2014 - 2:15am

Pati Yenalavitch

Just anxious to see if plays out the same on screen as it does in my head, lol

30 Jul 2014 - 2:57am

Karli Anderson

Inviting you was the best decisions I ever made, Theresa!

30 Jul 2014 - 4:19am

I guess I'm just a romantic at heart, because I'm looking forward to the wedding!

30 Jul 2014 - 4:31am

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing Leoch. I've pictured so much of the book in my head over the years but somehow never quite "got" how a castle like that functioned in that time. And I got the impression that Herself's appearance will be at Leoch.

30 Jul 2014 - 5:17am

This is so cliche, but the wedding night. Truly, such a beautiful moment in the book <3

30 Jul 2014 - 11:27am

Carey Bass

With so many awesome scenarios in Outlander, the one I'm most looking forward to is when Jaime takes Claire back to the stones, insisting, out of his own selfless love, that she return to the safety of her own time. It is then, while there alone, that Claire realizes that she truly loves Jaime and rushes to the cottage, to find him asleep! I feel this is one of the most pivotal scenes in the story, when Claire discovers she loves Jaime more than she loves Frank or the comforts of her own time and chooses to stay with him!

31 Jul 2014 - 11:22am

I am most looking forward to when Jamie tries to send Claire back to Frank and pulls her back.

31 Jul 2014 - 12:58pm

When Claire comes back to Jamie at Craigh na dun, having decided not to return to Frank through the stones, that bit gets me each time I have read the book.

31 Jul 2014 - 2:07pm

Rita Noetzel

I want to see Claire drunk at Hall. And Jamie and Ian when he finds out the truth about Jenny.

31 Jul 2014 - 3:12pm

Jenni Olson

I'm most looking forward to the fight scene after they return to Castle Leoch. "Now then, what does f@*$ ing mean?"

31 Jul 2014 - 5:37pm

I'm looking forward to so much that it's hard to decide. If I could narrow it down, I'm looking forward to the spanking. I know it's controversial, but it was appropriate to the time. With people chiming in iwth their 21st century attitudes, it's sure to stir up debate. I want to see how the writers and director have handled it. Oh! And I'm looking forward to the aftermath. ;)

31 Jul 2014 - 7:55pm

Shelly Scott

I am looking most forward to "The Spanking". :)

31 Jul 2014 - 8:37pm

I am looking forward to the return to Lallybroch and meeting the family.

31 Jul 2014 - 9:05pm

The scene of Claire going through the stones and she turns back. Sobbing moment!

31 Jul 2014 - 9:25pm

Gale Blackmore

IMy favorite is the scene with Jamie, Claire and Hamish In the horse barn when Jamie explains details of the facts of life to Hamish while Claire is suppressing her laughter in the loft. It's my absolute favorite & that portion of my copy is coming apart there.

31 Jul 2014 - 10:27pm

Jessie Guyon

I'm most looking forward to seeing Jaime and Claire travel to Lallybroch, after they visit the stones. It seems like such a nice, utopian time, at least for a bit, before things go wrong :)

01 Aug 2014 - 12:11am

While I am very excited for all of the "favorite" scenes . I really (like REALLY) can't wait for the first time Jamie calls Claire sassenach. Even if it isn't Mistress Sassenach lol.

01 Aug 2014 - 6:01am

Cheri Fry

So happy for you that you were able to attend! Looks like you had a marvelous time! The scene(s) that I think that I am most looking forward to are the actual wedding and of course the wedding night!

01 Aug 2014 - 7:34am

There are so many scenes I'm looking forward to seeing. If I had to pick one, it would be Claire traveling through the stones to begin her amazing adventure.

02 Aug 2014 - 1:56pm

Jennifer Calabro

I'm looking forward to a myriad of scenes, but the one I'm currently looking forward to the most is the wedding scene.

02 Aug 2014 - 3:45pm

Looking forward to seeing everything, but especially when Jamie takes Claire back to Craigh na Dun
