Outlander on Starz Premiere at Spreckels Theater San Diego Comic Con 2014

Outlander on STARZ Premiere - Comic Con 2014

Thousands descended on San Diego last week for Comic Con 2014, including a few hundred #Outlanders there to see the world premiere of Outlander on STARZ.

I was invited along by another big fan, Karli, who generously offered her "plus one" ticket to me. We spent the weekend with 6 other fabulous women in a house in the Hillcrest district of SD.

None of us had ever met in person, but as I've learned before on previous Outlander-related trips, when you travel to meet other fans of Diana Gabaldon's epic tale of love and adventure, you're sure to meet a group of like-minded women all up for a good time.

The Outlander Boys - Comic Con 2014

We started off the day of the premiere with a visit to the Convention Centre. We didn't have tickets to get inside, but what does that matter when we were lucky enough to come across this group of kilted "Highlanders?"

Those handsome men were accompanied by some beautiful female pipers who played with all their might to keep up the enthusiasm. You'll find a video of them belting it out on Outlander Kitchen's new Youtube channel.

Then it was time to get back to the house and gussy ourselves up for our walk up the Plaid Carpet on the way into Spreckels Theater, the venue for the big premiere!

We gathered in our seats and waited while the stars were interviewed on their way in. Most of you know I can't resist any chance to plug my love of nettles as food, so I had to snap a pic when they came up on the screen. You can sting yourself to soothe arthritis if you want, but I'll use mine to make a batch of Claire's Nettle-Kissed Buns.

Pipers at the Outlander on Starz Premiere

Then it was time for the Outlander on Starz premiere to begin! Those beautiful pipers were back again, this time in their formal evening attire.

We were treated to even more music by Outlander theme composer Bear McCreary, fiddler Paul Cartright and vocalist Raya Yarbrough. I managed to capture all but the first 2 seconds on video...I highly recommend sitting back and taking 11 minutes to listen.  Everyone in the audience was blown away.

I don't want to say too much about the first episode, 'cause I'm a very anti-spoiler kind of girl, but I feel safe in saying that Outlander book fans won't be disappointed.

It was everything I hoped for. There are some new scenes, a few that are a little different, and some that are gone altogether, but the passion, drama and humour are all there. I fell in love with the story all over again. I can't wait for more, and for everyone else to see it! You may have a wee bone to pick here and there, but in real life, you've got nothing but to be happy.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Comic-Con-Panel2

After the show, we were treated to a Q&A session some of the cast, Diana and Ron Moore. It had been a long day for all of them, being dragged to event after event, but they were all still on form, throwing jokes and light-hearted volleys back and forth to keep the audience laughing.

It was a day and night I'll never forget, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with so many other fans.

Outlander on STARZ premieres on August 9, 2014 at 9PM ET. An in-advance online full-episode preview ill be available online at STARZ.com/Outlander.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Swag

Of course, where there's a premiere, there's swag. I have 3 Outlander on STARZ bandanas to give away this week. The first goes to a random winner here on the blog who follows the instructions below:

Theresa, I am most looking forward to Claire bringing Jamie back from the brink at the Abbey. That scene cemented for me her real and full love of and for him. (And, if course, Jamie escapes through the window naked shortly thereafter!) I am also looking forward to Drunk Claire the night before her wedding.

03 Aug 2014 - 8:52pm

Missy LeMay

Hard to choose! I will have to say the wedding. But I'm excited to see it all!

03 Aug 2014 - 8:57pm

Kathy Pritchard

The first episode is wonderful. I want to see the episode when she decides to stay instead of going through the stones.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:07pm

Lisa Thomas

I've already seen it! I most wanted to see Jamie's ghost staring up at Claire.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:20pm

Looking forward to seeing Claire fight and kill a wolf with her bare hands to save Jamie from Wentworth Prison and BJR.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:21pm

I hope the day the spend in the hills behind the tavern after their marriage is there. It's a really sweet part of the story where they are still getting to Telly know one another. I really want the song in there.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:29pm

Kristin Starcher

Only one?! I don't think I can do it! I would have to say the Wedding Night.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:33pm

Marcy Daniels

Can't wait try some of your recipes. You come up with great inspirations.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:47pm

There are so many pick from.... One we have seen already, Jamie's ghost... One I think important is the conversation between Jamie and Claire after they are married , where they agree they don't have to tell each other everything, but there is no room or lies. It is important and I hope they take care to shoot it with the importance it calls for.

03 Aug 2014 - 9:52pm

The moment that they make eye contact and he knows that he will love her forever.

03 Aug 2014 - 10:29pm

03 Aug 2014 - 11:11pm

Jacque Watkins

I'm looking forward to two, first one would be when Claire encounters the Loch Ness monster and another scene will be when Jamie makes Claire go back right before Culloden, her arrival in Her own time pregnant and missing for three years

03 Aug 2014 - 11:34pm

Jackie Harms

I can't wait to see Claire, dressed in her beautiful yellow bridal gown, Jamie insisted she have - then get roaring drunk for her wedding. I want to see the expression on poor Jamie's face, and Clare's bad behaviour!

04 Aug 2014 - 12:00am

Sandy youngblood

The wedding night of course.

04 Aug 2014 - 12:01am

Jana Ristic-Petrovic

I am like most others looking forward to the wedding but also want to see Claire handle and kill the wolf outside of Wentworth Prison. I just love feisty women!

04 Aug 2014 - 4:01am

Suzanne Cole

To me! To me!

04 Aug 2014 - 8:56am

Dana Heck

I am looking forward to the scenes at the abbey after Wentworth, especially Claire 'channeling' Black Jack to save Jamie.

04 Aug 2014 - 11:43am

Anita G

I'm looking forward to seeing Jamie and Jenny meeting up again (i.e. the big fight - the clash of the Fraser stubbornness) first time Jamie takes Claire home to Lallybroch, after Claire chooses to stay instead of going back to Frank.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:10pm

Kate Soehnlen

I'm looking forward to when Jamie comforts Claire when she loses it trying to come to terms with what's happened to her and if her husband is dead (or not!) After that, I'm *really* looking forward to the wedding! :-)

The scene I am most looking forward to seeing is the wedding night. To be more precise, the time before the bedding when Jamie and Claire talk and really open up to each other! Sigh!

I can't wait for the witch trial scene when they are in the water getting tested and Jamie swoops in to save Claire! Then they go off and Claire tells Jamie that she is from the future!

28 Jul 2014 - 12:11pm

Thanks for the great pictures, I'm so glad you were able to attend! The scene I am most looking forward to seeing.... That's a tough one. Of cours the wedding :) but I am really interested to see how they handle Claire going through the stones.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:26pm

The scene I'm most looking forward to is when Column and Claire meet in his solar. The battle of the wits, as it were. Also, the wedding ;).

28 Jul 2014 - 12:28pm

oh the scene where Frank "sees" the highlander ghost and Claire heading through the stones!

28 Jul 2014 - 12:31pm

Jamie Mathews …

I think from the first book the scene I am most excited to see would be when Jamie tries to send Claire back thru the stones and the aftermath. Oh, and Claire showing up on McRannoch s doorstep in a snow storm....

28 Jul 2014 - 12:35pm

The scene I'm looking forward the most in seeing is the fight after Jaime rescues Claire from BJR.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:35pm

Sally in VT

I want to see Claire wandering thru the castle to orient herself, so I can see it thru her eyes. Likewise I want to see the grounds, fields and outbuildings so I can really feel the surroundings.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:37pm

Renate Rapp

Have really enjoyed seeing your view of SDCC!!! I'm excited to be attending the NY Premier tonight!!! There are a few scenes i'm looking forward to seeing, but first on my list is the wedding (ceremony & night). Close seconds are Claire's journey through the stones, and the flogging.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:41pm

Thanks for the pictures! I'm - of course - looking forward to the wedding night but what I most want to see is the episode at the abbey. So I'll have to curb my curiosity even longer for the last episodes of the second half of the first season... God, please grant me patience. Now!

28 Jul 2014 - 12:41pm

Too many awesome scenes to pick just one! I will say the wedding and witch trial!

28 Jul 2014 - 12:42pm

Elizabeth Cooper

I can't wait to see the wedding scene! I can't wait for the whole series!!

28 Jul 2014 - 12:44pm

I hate to be trite, but THE WEDDING!

28 Jul 2014 - 12:48pm

The scenes I do not want to see are the flogging and later at Wentworth the rape by BJR. The scene I suppose that I might really look forward to is when Jamie tries to send Clarie back through the stones. This is where is finally realizes what and who she is and loves her the more for choosing him and she that also for him. Helen in Ark

28 Jul 2014 - 12:50pm

Anne Mikolaities

The scene I'm most looking forward to has to be Jamie and Claire first meet. It'll set the tone for the whole episode. I am also looking forward to seeing how Claire going thru the stones is treated - hopefully no black and white twirling hypnotist's device! Just kidding! I'm sure it will be quite well done.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:52pm

Liza Ahern

I think definitely Claire's first encounter with Black Jack Randall.

28 Jul 2014 - 12:56pm

Felicia S

I'm looking forward to seeing the scene when Jamie gives Claire the ring.

28 Jul 2014 - 1:07pm

Maureen Peterson

OF course the wedding & the night that follows....;)

28 Jul 2014 - 1:26pm

Denise Twist

Trying so hard not to be jealous, Theresa!!! I'm looking forward to Jamie's physical swordplay and then the verbal swordplay between him and Claire. And, of course, the making up!

28 Jul 2014 - 1:28pm

Barbie Roberts

Theresa, I'm so happy you were able to attend the premiere! Thanks for not giving any spoilers on the show. I'm looking forward to seeing ALL of it, but the one scene(s) I think I'm really looking forward to is the aftermath of Jamie rescuing Claire from Ft. William and BJR. The fight they have on the side of the road and the spanking he gives her later promise to be full of sparks and spirit.

28 Jul 2014 - 1:29pm

I am most looking forward to the wedding scene of Jamie and Claire because of the scene itself, but also because of the costumes!

28 Jul 2014 - 1:29pm

Rhiannon McVean

I am rereading Outlander right now in anticipation of the show.(third time) The scene I am most looking forward to seeing is when Jamie takes Claire back to the stones so she can go back to her time. I can't wait to see those intense emotions played out on screen. Pick me! Pick me! :)

28 Jul 2014 - 1:35pm

Rossana Malvani

It' hard to choose a single scene! I think that the wedding first night is the scene that I'm thrilled to see! Thank you for the chance to win! Hugs from Italy!

28 Jul 2014 - 1:38pm

Anne marie froment

My favourite scene is when Claire decides to stay with Jamie instead of going back to Frank. I find it very emotional and I am looking forward to see Sam' s and Cait's interpretation of it.

28 Jul 2014 - 1:39pm

Susan Frank

I'm looking forward to the morning after the wedding when Claire is confronted by all those grinning, teasing highlanders.

28 Jul 2014 - 1:39pm

Wow! To pick one scene...there are many, I'm excited to see them ALL! Let's see, I think it will be cool to see Claire and Jenny build their friendship and to become sisters. To see their strength together while searching for Jamie. All of Diana's wonderful scenes depicting strong independent women in the face of the difficulties of the time.
