Outlander on Starz Premiere at Spreckels Theater San Diego Comic Con 2014

Outlander on STARZ Premiere - Comic Con 2014

Thousands descended on San Diego last week for Comic Con 2014, including a few hundred #Outlanders there to see the world premiere of Outlander on STARZ.

I was invited along by another big fan, Karli, who generously offered her "plus one" ticket to me. We spent the weekend with 6 other fabulous women in a house in the Hillcrest district of SD.

None of us had ever met in person, but as I've learned before on previous Outlander-related trips, when you travel to meet other fans of Diana Gabaldon's epic tale of love and adventure, you're sure to meet a group of like-minded women all up for a good time.

The Outlander Boys - Comic Con 2014

We started off the day of the premiere with a visit to the Convention Centre. We didn't have tickets to get inside, but what does that matter when we were lucky enough to come across this group of kilted "Highlanders?"

Those handsome men were accompanied by some beautiful female pipers who played with all their might to keep up the enthusiasm. You'll find a video of them belting it out on Outlander Kitchen's new Youtube channel.

Then it was time to get back to the house and gussy ourselves up for our walk up the Plaid Carpet on the way into Spreckels Theater, the venue for the big premiere!

We gathered in our seats and waited while the stars were interviewed on their way in. Most of you know I can't resist any chance to plug my love of nettles as food, so I had to snap a pic when they came up on the screen. You can sting yourself to soothe arthritis if you want, but I'll use mine to make a batch of Claire's Nettle-Kissed Buns.

Pipers at the Outlander on Starz Premiere

Then it was time for the Outlander on Starz premiere to begin! Those beautiful pipers were back again, this time in their formal evening attire.

We were treated to even more music by Outlander theme composer Bear McCreary, fiddler Paul Cartright and vocalist Raya Yarbrough. I managed to capture all but the first 2 seconds on video...I highly recommend sitting back and taking 11 minutes to listen.  Everyone in the audience was blown away.

I don't want to say too much about the first episode, 'cause I'm a very anti-spoiler kind of girl, but I feel safe in saying that Outlander book fans won't be disappointed.

It was everything I hoped for. There are some new scenes, a few that are a little different, and some that are gone altogether, but the passion, drama and humour are all there. I fell in love with the story all over again. I can't wait for more, and for everyone else to see it! You may have a wee bone to pick here and there, but in real life, you've got nothing but to be happy.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Comic-Con-Panel2

After the show, we were treated to a Q&A session some of the cast, Diana and Ron Moore. It had been a long day for all of them, being dragged to event after event, but they were all still on form, throwing jokes and light-hearted volleys back and forth to keep the audience laughing.

It was a day and night I'll never forget, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with so many other fans.

Outlander on STARZ premieres on August 9, 2014 at 9PM ET. An in-advance online full-episode preview ill be available online at STARZ.com/Outlander.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Swag

Of course, where there's a premiere, there's swag. I have 3 Outlander on STARZ bandanas to give away this week. The first goes to a random winner here on the blog who follows the instructions below:

Of course i want to see the wedding & night but i am looking forward to seeing how they handle the scene involving "Claire's punishment "

28 Jul 2014 - 1:44pm

Michele Yon

For something a little different, I'm looking forward to Jamie's Lallybroch homecoming.

28 Jul 2014 - 1:45pm

Easy. The same scene DG wants to see. When Jamie is raped and tortured by BJR. Sick, I know. But it's going to be so good! Btw, if I should win, the prize will go to a friend who was instrumental in getting Emulsion to our state but was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital a day or 2 before the premiere. She is getting better. :-)

28 Jul 2014 - 1:58pm

Jamie Campbell

I'm looking forward to so much! But the wedding, the witch trial, and seeing Claire 'travel' through the stones are tops on my list.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:07pm

Dawn Bazinet

I am most looking forward to when Claire and Jamie first meet and their wedding night.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:08pm

Georgia Moody

The scene where Claire is dealing with the aftermath of the Cocknammon Rock ambush and butting heads with Dougal.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:10pm

Cassandra LeRoy

The wedding (and of course, the wedding night).

28 Jul 2014 - 2:11pm

I'm looking forward to seeing how Jaime's and BJR's " relationship" is presented.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:12pm

Awesome! Thanks, Theresa! I want to see the scene (s) when Jamie takes her to the stones to send her back to Frank and then afterwards. That will be EPIC!

28 Jul 2014 - 2:13pm

I am dying to see the reunion between Jamie and Jenny when he brings Claire home to Lallybroch for the first time. I hope to see fireworks between them!

28 Jul 2014 - 2:14pm

Kerri Satterfield

Just one? I guess it will have to be the wedding night.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:16pm

I am SOOO looking forward to Jamie's reaction to Claire's decision her second time at the stones. Awwwww.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:16pm

How your supposed to pick just one scene you want to see from outlander I have no idea, however the wedding scene is pretty up there, along with the scene where Jamie sends Claire back through the stones..

28 Jul 2014 - 2:17pm

I'm looking forward to the scene when Jamie and Claire get married and are together for first time. Where it all begins.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:17pm

I am anxiously awaiting the scene when Claire and Jamie Cry on the floor as her holds her. And all the fighting scenes with Dougal It's a toss up for me

28 Jul 2014 - 2:18pm

Beth Behling-Kulsic

The wedding!

28 Jul 2014 - 2:20pm

Catherine Windsor

Trying to pick one scene is akin to the reaction to "which is your favorite child". I'd have to say especially keen to see the Gathering at Castle Leoch. And the wedding, of course.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:20pm

Patty Voga

There are soooo many I want to see but the wedding night is my first choice.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:24pm

I'm looking forward to see how Ron Moore approaches the scene when Claire is given the option to marry Jamie for clan protection and Jamies reaction.

28 Jul 2014 - 2:31pm

I am looking forward to the wedding, of course, but also the conversation with Claire, Jamie, and Dougal that leads up to the wedding and Claire having a wee bit too much to drink!

28 Jul 2014 - 2:31pm

Diane (aka twe…

I've always been partial to the "Pillory" scene. While they were definitely friendly before, I just loved the little plan they plotted together! (the first of many) and that it was Jamie's first affectionate use of "Sassenach" I think that might be switched up a little for the show ("No promises Sassenach!"- but I hope it's still there in some way, shape or form! :)

28 Jul 2014 - 2:34pm

When Jamie and Claire get marrit'! Teeeheeee

28 Jul 2014 - 2:37pm

Lynn Meyer

I am looking forward to the wedding scene...cannot wait to see what a Highlander in full regalia looks like!!!

28 Jul 2014 - 2:38pm

So glad you go to go! Ok a little green with envy ;) I am most looking forward to the wedding and wedding night :)

28 Jul 2014 - 2:39pm

Lisa Davies

When Claire is changing Jamie's dressing during the gathering....and she touches the scars on his back....such an intimate scene.....

28 Jul 2014 - 2:43pm

Thank you for sharing your experience and some videos! I'm most looking forward to the dressing for and actual wedding scene.. Want to see the shock on Claire's face when she recognizes the church.

28 Jul 2014 - 7:40pm

Sara W.

I would love to see the scene where Jamie returns home to his sister Jenny! I love the brother-sister interaction!

28 Jul 2014 - 7:49pm

Ann G

I'm looking forward to the wedding night. Of course, I love all the books.

28 Jul 2014 - 7:55pm

Aside from looking forward to all the scenes :) , I am looking forward to seeing when Jamie takes the beating for Laoghrie and Claire sees just what kind of person Jamie truly is.

28 Jul 2014 - 7:56pm

Elaine Boyle

Too many wonderful scenes to pick just one. The person/thing I am looking forward to seeing is that first view of Jamie in his wedding regalia!

28 Jul 2014 - 7:58pm

Besides the obvious (wedding night), I am most excited to see the scene when Claire is being questioned (and punched), by BJR, and Jamie comes and single-handedly saves her! Of course there are MANY other scenes I'm looking forward to, but this sprang to mind.

28 Jul 2014 - 8:12pm

Diana Chichester

Thank you so much for giving us this glimpse of your day/evening, and for giving away your swag! Of course, we all want to see the wedding and wedding night, but I also can't wait to see Jenny and Jamie fighting like tomcats, Will she make a grab under his kilt?

28 Jul 2014 - 8:20pm

Looking forward to Jamie attempting to send Claire back through the stones and finally believing her about falling through time.

28 Jul 2014 - 8:34pm

I think the scene I am really looking forward to seeing is Claire going through the stones. I'm very interested in seeing how Ron envisioned it.

28 Jul 2014 - 9:06pm

Carol Mackey

So happy that you were able to be in San Diego! It looks like it was a blast! Scanning all these posts was like reviewing the book all over again; however, Claire's going through the stones initally and her first reactions to what she sees upon arriving in the 18th century is at the top of my list. It sets the whole story in motion.

28 Jul 2014 - 9:14pm

I'm most looking forward to seeing the wedding vows scene.

28 Jul 2014 - 9:57pm

Steph S.

It has to be when Jamie tries to send Claire back and his explaining to her later how hard it was to make that decision.. how he prayed that he loved her enough to send her back.

28 Jul 2014 - 10:19pm

Mindy Adams

I am looking forward to seeing the relationship between Claire & Jamie progress from friendship to love and then, of course, the wedding night. It is said the Fifty Shades of Grey's sex scenes have heated up sex lives, but I dare say (having read both book series), that the relationship between Claire & Jamie is way hotter and much more intimate than Fifty Shades. And it has heated up my own bedroom quite nicely! ;)

28 Jul 2014 - 10:25pm

Ann G

Jamie wouldn't be Jamie if he didn't take the punishment for Leghair. But I'm thinking what would have changed if Leghair had to take her OWN punishment. Maybe Leghair wouldn't believe that Jamie loved her.

28 Jul 2014 - 10:31pm

I haven't read the books but u think the show has a sensational premise!

28 Jul 2014 - 11:10pm

Tiffany w.

The wedding scene, of course!

28 Jul 2014 - 11:55pm

When Jamie and Claire are caught in bed together by Loaghaire. That should be interesting. Wink wink nudge nudge.

29 Jul 2014 - 12:05am

Robyn Hoover

The scene I am looking forward to is at the witch trial, when Jamie tells the judges, Mutt and Jeff, "I swore an oath before the altar of God to protect this woman. And if you're telling me that ye consider your own authority to be greater than that of the Almighty , then I must inform ye that I'm no of that opinion, myself" #sigh!

29 Jul 2014 - 12:58am

Lisa S

I am looking forward to the scene at the Abbey in the hot springs. When Claire fights for and heals Jamie's soul.

29 Jul 2014 - 2:04am

Favorite scene? When Jaime gives Claire her wedding ring.

29 Jul 2014 - 2:24am

Jhaye Ducharme

It's the wedding night for me!

29 Jul 2014 - 2:32am

Jules Teal

Claire and Jamie go to fetch water and stop for a tryst. While they were involved, two Red Coats (deserters I believe) come upon them. They attempt to rape Claire while Jamie has to watch. Then Claire kills the man (using the term loosely) who is on her.

29 Jul 2014 - 3:09am

The wedding and the wedding night are top of the list for me!

29 Jul 2014 - 3:58am

Betsy Eyrich

I'm looking forward to the scene when Jamie and Claire are accompanying Dougal as he collects the rents, and Jamie shows off his sword skills for Claire.

29 Jul 2014 - 4:43am

I am looking forward to all of the scenes that will obviously be awesome - when they meet, when they marry - but I am intrigued to see Claire's face when she sees the vaccination scar on Geillis!!
