Outlander on Starz Premiere at Spreckels Theater San Diego Comic Con 2014

Outlander on STARZ Premiere - Comic Con 2014

Thousands descended on San Diego last week for Comic Con 2014, including a few hundred #Outlanders there to see the world premiere of Outlander on STARZ.

I was invited along by another big fan, Karli, who generously offered her "plus one" ticket to me. We spent the weekend with 6 other fabulous women in a house in the Hillcrest district of SD.

None of us had ever met in person, but as I've learned before on previous Outlander-related trips, when you travel to meet other fans of Diana Gabaldon's epic tale of love and adventure, you're sure to meet a group of like-minded women all up for a good time.

The Outlander Boys - Comic Con 2014

We started off the day of the premiere with a visit to the Convention Centre. We didn't have tickets to get inside, but what does that matter when we were lucky enough to come across this group of kilted "Highlanders?"

Those handsome men were accompanied by some beautiful female pipers who played with all their might to keep up the enthusiasm. You'll find a video of them belting it out on Outlander Kitchen's new Youtube channel.

Then it was time to get back to the house and gussy ourselves up for our walk up the Plaid Carpet on the way into Spreckels Theater, the venue for the big premiere!

We gathered in our seats and waited while the stars were interviewed on their way in. Most of you know I can't resist any chance to plug my love of nettles as food, so I had to snap a pic when they came up on the screen. You can sting yourself to soothe arthritis if you want, but I'll use mine to make a batch of Claire's Nettle-Kissed Buns.

Pipers at the Outlander on Starz Premiere

Then it was time for the Outlander on Starz premiere to begin! Those beautiful pipers were back again, this time in their formal evening attire.

We were treated to even more music by Outlander theme composer Bear McCreary, fiddler Paul Cartright and vocalist Raya Yarbrough. I managed to capture all but the first 2 seconds on video...I highly recommend sitting back and taking 11 minutes to listen.  Everyone in the audience was blown away.

I don't want to say too much about the first episode, 'cause I'm a very anti-spoiler kind of girl, but I feel safe in saying that Outlander book fans won't be disappointed.

It was everything I hoped for. There are some new scenes, a few that are a little different, and some that are gone altogether, but the passion, drama and humour are all there. I fell in love with the story all over again. I can't wait for more, and for everyone else to see it! You may have a wee bone to pick here and there, but in real life, you've got nothing but to be happy.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Comic-Con-Panel2

After the show, we were treated to a Q&A session some of the cast, Diana and Ron Moore. It had been a long day for all of them, being dragged to event after event, but they were all still on form, throwing jokes and light-hearted volleys back and forth to keep the audience laughing.

It was a day and night I'll never forget, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with so many other fans.

Outlander on STARZ premieres on August 9, 2014 at 9PM ET. An in-advance online full-episode preview ill be available online at STARZ.com/Outlander.

Outlander on Starz Premiere Swag

Of course, where there's a premiere, there's swag. I have 3 Outlander on STARZ bandanas to give away this week. The first goes to a random winner here on the blog who follows the instructions below:

I can't wait to see the beating Jamie gives Claire. Her negotiations to get out of it will be fun to see as well as his determination to give it to her. Then the aftermath of Dougal, Rupert and the rest giving her little pats on the bum.

As with many of the comments above, I too am looking forward to when Jamie takes Claire back to the stones. My heart just breaks for him when he leaves her there that I know I will end up in tears.

I have to agree with the others who mentioned the scene when Claire has to decide whether to go back to Frank or stay with Jamie.

Pamela Messinger

I'm looking forward to the pre wedding scene when Claire over indulges and has to be coaxed to get ready. Also Jamie gets her a wedding dress and that's so sweet. Finally the wedding scene and the consummation. I love that he understands she needs to get ready and how he suggests they just touch and talk until they are comfortable enough. Then it's magic and beautiful!

30 Jul 2014 - 11:50pm

Joanne Hesketh

Looking forward to the spanking scene.

When Jaimie reveals that the real reason he married Claire was because he loved her and wanted her more than anything in his whole life.

31 Jul 2014 - 12:52am

Jen Brougham

Hard to pick just one, but I'm anxious to see Jamie and Jenny going nuts on each other when Jamie returns home for the first time to introduce his wife. A strong woman tearing at her dumb brother - that's real life!!

31 Jul 2014 - 12:59am

I really want to see the part after Jamie rescues Claire from BJR. He's angry, hurt, confused and says 'you're tearing my guts out, Claire.'

31 Jul 2014 - 1:19am

Candy Poole

Right now.... I'm looking forward to the "ghost" scene..... Our verra first glimpse of Claire and Jaime together (almost). :+)

Oh dear, there are so many, but I think I most want to see Claire's reaction when she first sees Jamie in all his wedding finery, and after that the wedding night.

I'm looking forward to when they arrive at Lallybroch and see Jenny.

31 Jul 2014 - 4:24am

At Craig na dun when Claire goes back down the hill and is reunited with Jamie rather than going back through the stones to Frank, I find that one of the most emotional scenes in the book.

31 Jul 2014 - 6:25am

Denise Mueller

Im really interested in how all the Wentworth scenes will be adapted without making it into a horror-series.

01 Aug 2014 - 6:22pm

03 Aug 2014 - 7:48pm

It won't be this season, but my favorite scene is Claire finding Jamie in the print shop after 20 years. THAT I can't wait to see on screen!

03 Aug 2014 - 8:41pm

When Claire gets her first glimpse of Jamie before the wedding. :)

04 Aug 2014 - 2:28pm

Lindsay McLeod

From the first book? So many choices and many people have echoed my thoughts... Obvious scenes... In no particular order, Wedding, return to Lallybroch, escape from ardsmuir, being taught to use a knife! I think the witch trial will be thrilling. I really am looking forward to the each wedding in the tropics with the drunken priest, when we get there!!!
